The UH College of Nursing and the Phi Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International host the 11th Annual Spring Nursing Forum Friday, April 13, 8 a.m. 鈥 noon at the University of Houston at Sugar Land, 14000 University Boulevard.
The focus of this year鈥檚 event is on translational research 鈥 taking research done in a laboratory (bench) and, from it, developing new ways to treat patients at the bedside.
鈥淎s a University, we can do this,鈥 said Kathryn Tart, professor and founding dean of the college. 鈥淲e are using research from our faculty to advance the scholarship and leadership of nursing professionals.鈥
Lenora A. McWilliams is an assistant professor in the College of Nursing. Her research on cooperative learning and application of theory at the bedside is one of four presentations.
鈥淎fter nurses graduate and they鈥檙e working, the best way they learn new concepts, such as using new equipment, is in small groups,鈥 she said. 鈥淭his is something we believe is true with families as well when they are providing patient care.鈥
