Cardiology Specialist Ellen Yin Joins PPTR as Clinical Assistant Professor
September 10 — The ºù«Ӱҵ College of Pharmacy recently welcomed cardiology pharmacy specialist Ellen Yin, Pharm.D., BCCP, as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Translational Research.
Most recently, she served as Pharmacy Manager for Medication Use and Formulary Management
at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), where she oversaw formulary operations
across four campuses, led cost-saving initiatives and directed medication use evaluations.
Prior to UTMB, Yin spent nearly seven years at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in hemostasis and thrombosis management with a focus on cardiac surgery and critical care. She also served as Residency Program Director for the PGY-2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency, successfully leading the program through reaccreditation during her more than four years in the role.
Yin earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Purdue University College of Pharmacy and completed both PGY-1 and PGY-2 residencies at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, specializing in cardiology pharmacy practice. She is board certified in cardiology pharmacy (BCCP) and holds a Teaching and Scholarship in Academia Certificate from UH College of Pharmacy.
Yin has delivered numerous continuing education lectures and authored multiple peer-reviewed publications on topics such as anticoagulation management in mechanical circulatory support devices and advanced heparin monitoring strategies. Her work has appeared in journals including The Texas Heart Institute Journal, Perfusion, and The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and has been presented at annual meetings of such national and state organizations as the American College of Cardiology and the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
