Awards Include UH鈥檚 Highest Faculty Honor 鈥 the Esther Farfel Award 鈥 and Recognition for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Scholarship
Six College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics faculty members and one graduate student brought home honors for excellence in the areas of teaching, mentoring, research and scholarship.
The awards, given each year at the 鈥淯H Faculty Excellence Awards Dinner,鈥 are one of the highest honors bestowed by the 葫芦影业. All winners receive a cash prize.
鈥淥ur college and its students benefit from the dedication demonstrated by the faculty members receiving these honors. They are well deserving of recognition at the University level,鈥 said Dan E. Wells, NSM dean. 鈥淭he highlight of this year鈥檚 awards is the selection of George Fox for the university鈥檚 highest honor, the Esther Farfel Award.鈥
George E. Fox 鈥 Esther Farfel Award Honoree
George E. Fox, the John and Rebecca Moores Professor of Biology and Biochemistry, received the Univerity鈥檚 highest faculty honor 鈥 the Esther Farfel Award. The award, which carries a $10,000 cash prize, recognizes excellence in teaching, research and service. Read More
Awards for Excellence in Research and Scholarship 鈥 Associate Professor
Each year, UH presents two awards at the Associate Professor rank to individuals who have established a growing record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative activities and who are emerging leaders in their field. Both recipients in 2016 were from NSM.

Two NSM instructional faculty members received this award given in recognition of outstanding teaching by faculty instructors, clinical faculty, research faculty, artist affiliates, and lecturers.

Teaching Excellence Award 鈥 Graduate Teaching Assistant
This award is given to graduate students in recognition of outstanding teaching.

Teaching Excellence Award 鈥 Community Engagement
This award is given in recognition of a full-time faculty member who involves students in service learning activities or community engagement projects. Mark Tomforde was recognized for his creation and leadership of the Cougar Houston Area Math Program (CHAMP).
