UH Students Recognized for Best Student Poster Presentations at AAPG
Students Earned First, Second and Third Place

received first, second and third place for best student poster presentations at the
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Annual Convention and Exhibition.
The convention took place in Pittsburgh, May 19-22.
Out of 122 applications, AAPG selected only 15 student posters for the poster presentation competition. Posters submitted by four UH students were chosen for the competition. All students who were part of the competition received prize money.
UH Students Competing in AAPG Poster Presentation
- First place: Bryan Ott, Ph.D. Student, $2,000 cash prize, $1,000 for UH AAPG Student ChapterPoster Title: 鈥淐rustal Provinces of the Nicaraguan Rise as a Control on Source Rock Distribution and Maturity鈥
- Second place: Luis Carlos Carvajal Arenas, Master鈥檚 Student, $1,500 cash prize, $750 for UH AAPG Student ChapterPoster Title: 鈥淧etroleum Prospectivity of the Southwestern Nicaraguan Rise (Colombian Caribbean) Based on Regional Integration of Seismic and Well Data鈥
- Third place: Lucia Torrado, Master鈥檚 Student, $1,000 cash prize, $500 for UH AAPG Student ChapterPoster Title: 鈥淔luvial Geomorphology Changes Linked to Tectonic Effects during the Late Eocene -Oligocene in the Northern Llanos Foreland Basin of Colombia鈥
The students' success was recognized in the AAPG Explorer's and issues.
