Dear Faculty,

It is hard to believe that a year has come and gone since I arrived at the ºù«Ӱҵ.

In that time, I’ve met many of you either in person or on Teams. Regardless of whether I was greeted with a physical handshake or a virtual fist bump, you provided a warm welcome to the University. For that, I must offer my sincerest thanks!

I look forward to meeting more of you in 2024. Likewise, I plan to meet and interact with more students in the year ahead. Thanks to the new segments, I am getting to know more of our Coogs, but I still have my work cut out for me. In the months to come, I’ll learn more about our students' work as I attend Undergraduate Research Day and other events spotlighting their success. Their achievements are made possible by your guidance and mentorship! And your scholarly prowess is making a difference in the University's momentum.

When I first learned of the opportunity to become Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, I was excited and eager to learn more about this great institution. During the interview process, it was clear that faculty, staff and students are passionate about the University and with good reason.

We continue to rise in the rankings and our research enterprise is impressive with groundbreaking discoveries and increased federal funding. Our campus is growing as evidenced by new academic buildings and other facilities. We are also working to refresh some of the campus' longtime academic buildings and classrooms to ensure a safe, secure environment for teaching and learning.

Another reason people are proud of UH is the student body. Our Cougars are second to none when it comes to their commitment to academic excellence.

With the higher education landscape changing daily, it is important that we continue working together to ensure the University maintains an upward trajectory. As faculty, you are key to our efforts toward fostering an engaging learning experience while supporting the well-being of our students and one another. I appreciate the work you do in and out of the classroom each day which is essential to meeting our student success, research and enrollment goals.

Thank you again for an outstanding experience in my first year as UH provost. I look forward to a productive 2024 and beyond working with all of you.

Respectfully,

Diane Z. Chase
Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, UH
